In April 1938, Lleida falls into Francoist hands. Not even a year later, in February 1939, all of Catalonia is occupied. Between these two dates, in a progressive way, the deposits of artistic, scientific, archaeological, ethnographic and documentary goods, created by the Catalan government during the Civil War to guarantee their protection, pass into the hands of the rebels. Under the protection of the rules established by the winners for the dissolution of these deposits, even today there is an undetermined amount of pieces not returned to their owners. During the decade of the 1940s they will be transferred to public and private institutions. In many cases, they still remain.
